(A Lesson Learned) On the 14th of October, amidst the hustle and bustle of the newly enforced ULEZ charges in London, Romford Rugby Club played host to a celebration to remember – Gemma White’s 30th birthday party.
Friends and family gathered, laughter filled the air, and memories were made. Little did I know, however, that the night would also teach me a valuable lesson about the intricacies of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone.
The evening began with anticipation and excitement as guests arrived, dressed to impress, ready to honour Gemma’s milestone birthday.
The venue buzzed with energy as music filled the room, and the aroma of delicious food wafted through the air. It was shaping up to be a fantastic night.
As the festivities continued into the night, I couldn’t help but notice the time. With the clock striking 1 am, it was time to bid farewell to the party and head home. Little did I know, I was about to encounter an unexpected hiccup.
Living outside the ULEZ zone, I was mindful of the charges as I drove into London earlier in the evening.
However, what slipped my mind was the necessity to pay the ULEZ charge again upon exiting the zone. It was an oversight that would later come back to haunt me.
Lesson Learned
A few days later, a £90 fine landed on my doorstep, a stark reminder of my forgetfulness. I had unwittingly missed the payment required upon exiting the ULEZ zone, resulting in a penalty that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
It was an expensive lesson to learn, but one that served as a wake-up call.
Reflecting on the experience, I realized the importance of being diligent and attentive to the details, especially when it comes to navigating the complexities of urban regulations.
While the fine may have been a setback, it served as a valuable reminder to always stay informed and prepared, particularly when venturing into areas with specific charges and restrictions.
Moreover, the incident made me rethink my future plans regarding gigs and events within the ULEZ charging zone.

Perhaps it was time to explore alternative venues and locations outside the ULEZ zone, where such concerns wouldn’t overshadow the joy of celebration.
