This year, we had the privilege of providing the music for Remembrance Day at The Royal Oak in South Ockendon. It was a long day, running from 11am all the way through to 9pm, but every moment was filled with heartfelt memories, reflection, and camaraderie.
The service began at 11am with a wreath-laying ceremony at the South Ockendon Memorial, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Standing alongside the community, we paid our respects, holding close to the thought: “They fought for their today so we could have our tomorrow.”
Back at The Royal Oak, the atmosphere was both respectful and uplifting. As the day went on, we played some classic war songs to keep that connection to history alive. Then we brought out some lively Chas and Dave “knees-up” tunes, which got everyone smiling and tapping along. As the evening approached, we shifted into party mode, turning up the energy and bringing a joyful close to the day’s events.
Landlords Nikki and Theresa went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, serving teas, coffees, and even a warming shot of brandy for the guests. Their hospitality, along with the fantastic turnout, really brought the community together in a way we won’t soon forget. Remembrance Day at The Royal Oak was indeed one for the books, as we honoured the past while celebrating the unity of today.
